Ontario Mine Rescue Emergency Services Specialist

This position provides emergency preparedness and response assessments of underground and
surface mining operations with traditional and non-traditional firms. The role also provides
specialized training to surface and underground mining operations, and can provide legislated
Ontario Mine Rescue training to underground mines.
The ideal candidate will hold a university degree or equivalent education and experience, as well as
train the trainer or adult education training certificate, current Ontario Mine Rescue certifications,
Standard First Aid/CPR, breathing apparatus technician level certification, underground common
core and Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification, or the ability to attain. This
candidate will also have 7 years of related job experience, a minimum of 5 years as an active firefighter or industrial/mining emergency responder, as well as additional experience in high angle and
confined space rescue, hazardous materials and spill response. The ability to obtain the CRSP
designation and a valid driver’s license is required.
The work involves frequent exposure to adverse conditions and extensive long duration travel, both
nationally and internationally. Frequent and extensive overnight travel (50 to 100 days throughout
the year) periodically required to work weekends and holidays. May be required to be away from
home for extended periods of 2 to 3 weeks in foreign countries/out of province; camp bunk houses
or like settings.
