Cardiovascular Surgery Program Expansion and Medical Device Reprocessing Department Renovation

Cardiovascular Surgery Program Expansion and Medical Device Reprocessing
Department Renovation
Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) is an existing 425-bed acute care facility
that serves Thunder Bay and the Northwestern Ontario region. TBRHSC is seeking to prequalify General
Contractors for the upcoming Cardiovascular Surgery Program expansion and Medical Device Reprocessing
Department (MDRD) renovation at 980 Oliver Road.
The project is in the final stages of design and will require Ministry of Health approvals prior to tender
being issued. It includes the construction of a 60,000 square foot addition to the existing Hospital, consisting
of two floors from the ground level and a mechanical penthouse. The addition will include a new hybrid
operating room equipped with C-arm imaging technology, six (6) Critical Care Unit beds,
fourteen (14) Cardiovascular surgical beds, and an ambulatory care clinic.
The project also includes a 14,000 square foot renovation to the existing Medical Device Reprocessing
Department, Phelebotomy and Electrocardiogram (ECG) room, and two (2) existing Operating rooms.
The renovations to the existing Hospital will require a multi-staged approach to allow the respective areas to
function operationally during the construction without significant interruption.
Request for Pre-Qualification #23-33 – General Contractors for the CVS Expansion Project is available only
through MERX, the electronic tendering system used by TBRHSC. For further information about MERX,
